From the infancy of industry to grand visions for the future – at Tekniska museet, Sweden’s biggest museum of technology, you can explore how everything fits together. The galleries cover around 10 000 sqm and the museum attracts more than 300 000 visitors every year.
The building is rather complex: A big floor with different passages, and a stairwell close to the entrance which leads to further exhibitions. First time-visitors often walks in and explore the first floor, then leave without noticing the stairwell. Our mission was to make visits at Tekniska Museet to run smooth and help people to find their way through all the exciting exhibitions.
When making the template design, we needed to consider that Tekniska museet has three different levels in their visual identity: Corporate, permanent areas and different exhibitions. We found a solution where these three levels could interact and still speak their own visual language.
We also put a lot of effort in creating a playful yet clear design, since we wanted to both strengthen the brand experience and make the information easy to see and understand: Museums have high demands regarding availability, therefore we worked with contrasts and placements, and all the main messages are written in both Swedish and English.
By making a customized version of our CMS platform, we created a solution where the staff easily could update the screens with current information and exhibitions. The templates differ depending on where the screen is located – for example todays’ menu meets the visitors close to the restaurant, and in waiting zones, recent posts from Tekniska museet’s Instagram account is shown.
During the process, we had a close cooperation with Familjen Pangea – together we created a brand-new signage system, covering both the analogue and digital signage.
